Social history of nursing

”The History of Nursing“ Grant Program
The history of nursing, both as a practice and as a profession, has until now received comparatively little academic attention. Therefore the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Institute for the History of Medicine (Institut für Geschichte der Medizin) have established a grant program titled ”The History of Nursing”.

Program objectives comprise:

• stimulating the interest of both the nursing profession as well as the general public in the history of nursing with the help of technical papers, book publications, conferences, museums etc.,
• including more nursing history in future nursing curricula,
• the professional preservation and exploitation of sources that are historically relevant to nursing,
• offering professional training opportunities to enhance the quality of historical research related to nursing,
• networking institutions and individuals who work in the field of nursing history,
• encouraging institutes of medical history to do research in nursing history, and
• providing fellowships for doctoral theses in the field of nursing history.

Research-only projects may only be funded in the scope of scholarships. The foundation will not fund staff positions, construction projects, or investments.

Project sketches should contain no more than three pages and may be submitted at any time. All proposals are subject to expert evaluation.
