Stuttgart Postgraduate Seminar in Medical History

The Stuttgart Postgraduate Seminar in Medical History takes place every year in the spring. The seminar focuses on training young scholars in the history of medicine and related fields. Each year’s participants choose the theme for the following year’s seminar. The Stuttgart Institute defines the final program together with three co-organizers, who are former participants.

Each participant in the seminar is part of a working group that is responsible for a given theme. This means that every seminar participant contributes directly to discussions, whether or not this includes presentation of a paper. For this and other reasons, it is important that everyone who decides to participate is present for the entire seminar. The working language is German.

The Stuttgart Institute finances this seminar, assuming all travel expenses (including second-class train journeys), meals, and lodging. Unfortunately, due to limited funds and space, the Institute cannot invite more than eighteen participants. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a place for every applicant.

The seminar’s call for participants takes place November, a few months before the seminar. Senior scholars are excluded from participating. There is no publication of the seminar’s proceedings.
