Geriatric care in post-war Germany (1945-1965) in the area of Hanover/ Lower Saxony
Nina Grabe, MA
The research project looks at the provision of nursing, medical and social care for the elderly in the area of Hanover/Lower Saxony from 1945 to c. 1965. On the basis of different sources it analyses personal perceptual patterns and behaviours within various institutions while also considering the tasks and training of the nursing staff. Some light is shed on the image of old age at the time and the competition between young and old due to the general provision crisis after 1945. Further questions arise from the situation in the refugee nursing homes which – due to the high percentage of old-age refugees – also played a part that must not be underestimated.
