Archive of the Robert Bosch Foundation

As the central archive of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and its institutions, the IGM manages the historical documents of the foundation itself. After the death of Robert Bosch Sr. (1861–1942), seven executors were tasked with implementing his legacy within 30 years. The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH emerged in 1964 from the Bosch Asset Management (VVB) founded in 1921. It has borne its name since 1969. The foundation's written records have been systematically recorded and collected by the IGM since 1991. Over the years, these documents have been archived and are available for use upon request after the archival retention periods have expired. Please also note the IGM's archival regulations.

The inventory overview, which was compiled in 2021, provides an initial overview of the foundation's ‘historical memory’ documents. It contains brief descriptions of the individual holdings as well as an account of the history of the foundation and the archive. The 60 holdings comprise more than 9,620 catalogue entries with a total length of around 350 linear metres (as of December 2023). The minutes of the meetings of the steering committees, the shareholders' meeting and the board of trustees are particularly important for the development and work of the foundation. The foundation's activities and its funding activities are reflected in the individual holdings of the subject areas, which mainly comprise the respective project files. There are also separate holdings for the foundation's institutions, such as the Robert Bosch Hospital and the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology.

Information on individual archive materials and their use is provided after approval by the foundation. Enquiries to the archive and applications for use must be submitted via the contact form.
