Archive of the Robert Bosch Hospital
As the central archive of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and its institutions, the IGM also manages the historical records of the Robert Bosch Hospital. The hospital was opened in April 1940 with the support of Robert Bosch (1861–1942). It was the culmination of Bosch's long-standing efforts to build such a facility and is the largest of his charitable activities in the field of health. The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, which emerged in 1964 from the Bosch Asset Management (VVB) founded in 1921, is the sole sponsor of the hospital. Due to various circumstances, only a few historical documents of the RBK have been preserved since 1992. The remaining written records of the hospital were systematically recorded and collected by the IGM. Over the years, these documents have been archived and are available for use upon request after the applicable retention periods have expired. Please note the IGM's archiving regulations. Special requirements apply to personal documents.
The inventory overview, which was compiled in 2022, provides an initial overview of the documents in the hospital's ‘historical memory’. It contains brief descriptions of the individual holdings as well as a presentation of the history of the RBK and the archive. The 27 holdings comprise approximately 7,800 catalogue entries with a total length of around 325 linear metres (as of December 2023).
An important core collection is the patient file of the homeopathic outpatient clinic, which was kept at the RBK until around 1974. Other patient records from various departments have been partially preserved and have so far only been summarised in list form. In general, these documents are subject to separate retention periods. Other documents originate from the submissions of individual chief physicians and the hospital administration. The Charlottenhaus Women's Clinic and Schillerhöhe Lung Clinic, which have been part of the RBK since 2006, are represented by their own holdings.
Information on individual archival records and their use is provided after approval by the RBK. Enquiries to the archive must be submitted via the contact form.
