Obituary
The IGM extends its sincere condolences on the death of Prof. Dr. Werner F. Kümmel. He was director of the Institute from 1986 to 1988 and was instrumental in establishing the social history of medicine as a research focus. He followed a call to Mainz, where he directed the Institute of Medical History until his retirement in 2002.
